Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 185: Let's Play

Chapter 185: Let’s Play

As soon as Kyran saw the magic array on the ground, he activated the Regis Blessing. His eyes glowed silver as he circulated the Draconic magic in his body. Focusing his strength on his left leg, he stomped his foot on the ground.

His action was too insignificant to destroy the array, but it was enough because he never intended to destroy it. Instead, he aimed to disrupt the flow of magic energy within, thus interrupting its completion time for a few seconds.

Based on what the woman called the magic array, it had something to do with ‘space’. From its name, ‘spatial manipulation’, it might mean the woman could control the space within her magic array’s area of effect. If he directly attacked her, those two men would definitely not let it happen. They were not there just to flex their superiority after all. And since they were above and a distance away from him, interrupting her magic array’s completion was the best action he could do at the moment. With this, he could at least give Zephyr and Cyneah enough time to escape.

The ground shook fiercely from Kyran’s stomp as web-like cracks spread on the pavement, starting where his foot landed. At the same time, a force-like wave spread over the magic array, resulting in the magic energies in the surroundings fluctuating for a moment.

Cyneah gasped in fright from the sudden tremor on the ground, but Zephyr, who already understood Kyran’s intention, followed up at once and grabbed her by the waist. He pulled her with him as he ran toward the alley. His eyes had already gone back to red as his pupils turned into slits.

Cyneah’s heart skipped a bit, knowing she was getting further from Kyran. Although he told her to go with ‘Zephy’, she did not know him after all. Aside from this, she was afraid for Kyran. The lights she saw from the other three were not good. Because there was a swirling black mist right at the middle, giving an ominous feeling.

Turning her head toward the direction where she knew Kyran was at, Cyneah called, “Nar!”

However, Zephyr tightened his grip around her waist and stopped her from struggling as he said, “He’ll be okay as long as we get away!”

He did not say these words to calm her. It was actually his honest thoughts after feeling immense pressure from the three people in black coats above, even when they were not exerting their magic pressures. With them there, they would only be in Kyran’s way.

“Sen,” the man in the middle of the three above spoke.

Instantly, the man on his right moved.

“Alrighty~.”

The moment Kyran heard the man in the middle spoke, he had already made a move by grabbing two cracked pavements beneath him. He lifted debris on each hand, which was at least two by two feet in size before he arched his back and threw them toward the other man who was about to follow Zephyr and Cyneah.

Because of the two debris that flew at a speed almost impossible to evade toward Sen, he stopped abruptly and looked in Kyran’s direction.

“Whoa~. That was dangerous,” Sen complained as the two pieces of debris hit a nearby building, destroying its wall in the process.

Muto narrowed his eyes as he looked at Kyran. He had read his details and knew he was a combat specialist. Still, he did not expect that the kid’s physical strength was powerful enough to interrupt Cora’s magic array.

On one side, when Kyran successfully interrupted Cora’s magic array, she did not falter and continued to focus on completing it.

It was the downside of using her magic and her specialized weapon. Most mages would have less completion time when summoning magic arrays, but hers would be tripled. For this reason, she wanted to become a Magus as soon as possible, so she no longer had to create magic arrays.

After throwing the debris, Kyran did not stop and ran to the man named Sen. He circulated the draconic magic in his body, not caring whether the town’s magic detector would identify it. If earlier, he was only 60% sure that the three people were from the army, now it was almost 90%. The reason behind it was how they managed to isolate the area in this town without him noticing it.

Sen ignored the approaching Kyran and continued his pursuit of the two people. Though they were not their target, Muto had told them to capture them alive for interrogation. After all, they appeared to be traveling together with their target when he was supposed to be traveling alone, according to their intel.

“Come on~. Don’t make it harder for this uncle and just stop will you?” Sen told the two.

He wanted to use his magic now, but because his magic target was area-based and not individual-based, he first had to make preparations.

Three cards with rune writings appeared in front of Sen. While still flying after the two, he waved his hand at the cards, and it immediately flew at the boy.

Zephyr, sensing an incoming danger, shifted Cyneah before him as he turned. Then using his right hand, he waved and controlled the air around him to form a transparent, round barrier around them.

Seeing the barrier formed around the two, Sen sneered. People always had a misconception of his ‘magic device’. Just because it looked solid and appeared to be a weapon did not mean it was.

The card in the middle touched Zephyr’s barrier, and just when he wanted to gloat at Sen’s stupidity, he heard him say, “Nullify~.”

Strings of black rune writings came out of the card and circled the barrier, immediately destroying it.

“What?” Zephyr exclaimed in surprise.

The other two cards flew straight in front of him and Cyneah and lit up.

“Bind~,” Sen said with a smile.

“Tsk,” Kyran gritted his teeth as he watched black runes starting to come out of the cards.

He abruptly stopped as his eyes changed into reddish purple. He spread his arms as two Void Daggers appeared on his hand. A small purple disc appeared before him, and he immediately threw the Void Daggers inside.

Two purple discs appeared on the gap that separated Zephyr and Cyneah with the two cards. The two Void Daggers appeared on each disc and directly went to the cards.

When the daggers passed through the black rune writings, they sizzled and disintegrated in the air. The Void daggers hit the cards and disintegrated as well.

“What?” Sen’s eyes grew wide from what he had just witnessed.

Even Muto, who initially planned to stay put, narrowed his eyes.

‘Was that…?’

Kyran had no plans on using his Void magic. However, even if he utilized his speed and intercepted the cards using his Draconic magic, there was no telling if those black rune writings would not affect him. There was no telling if he could still help Zephyr and Cyneah escape if he was bound. Or at least move outside the magic array’s range. Worse, those cards would detain the three of them.

“GO!” Kyran told Zephyr.

Zephyr nodded his head and did not hesitate anymore and manipulated that air around him. He took Cyneah’s hand, and flew away as fast as he could.

“You—.”

“You want to play right? Then let’s play,” Kyran said as he suddenly appeared in front of Sen and punched him on his face.

“Gah!” Sen groaned as he was thrown to the side from the force of the punch.

He hit one… two… three buildings before he finally slammed on the last wall, and the debris fell, burying him in the process.

The moment Muto had seen Kyran disappear on his spot, he had already made his move and flew to Sen’s position. However, he was too late because Kyran reappeared at Sen’s side and punched him.

Without stopping, Muto charged toward Kyran as two reddish-black magic arrays appeared above his head and below his feet. It swept down and up to his body, respectively. When the two magic arrays met at his waist, his form suddenly changed. His body bulked, and as the magic arrays exchanged places and revealed his face, it no longer carried a human feature but a wolf-like face.

Muto, magic was Transfiguration. He could transform into any small to medium-sized beasts, as long as he had eaten their heart before. His favorite was the Wolvern form because it was easy to move around. All of his senses were heightened as well, and it amplified his ability to ‘smell’ scent that ordinary people could not. Thus, it was easy for him to ‘smell’ his opponent’s moves.

“Rawrgh!” Muto roared as he lifted his balled fist above his head and rammed it toward Kyran’s head.

Kyran, who already sensed the man’s approach lifted his arms and blocked his attack.

However, before Muto hit Kyran’s arm, he unfurled his fist, revealing long sharp claws and slashed Kyran’s arm.

“Ngrgh,” Kyran gritted his teeth as the man’s claws dug into his flesh.

He was surprised at how easily the man managed to rip his flesh when he was already under the Regis Blessing. However, he remembered he was not using even 5% of the Regis Blessing. Not to mention, he was only wearing regular clothes.

Though the Regis Blessing strengthened his physical defences; against magic imbued attack, it was still far from enough.

As Muto’s claws dugged into Kyran’s flesh, his eyes flashed as a sinister smile crept on his face while he watched Kyran bleed.

He was about to pull out and attack again when he realized his claws were stuck.

“What—.”

Kyran looked at the man with a sneer.
